Inline Skates for Recreation, Fitness, Sport and Speed
InlineSkateScene is for new and experienced inline skaters to learn more about the sport and its associated equipment. All styles of inline skating are both a safe and fun lifetime activity, and people from all age groups and walks of life have taken up inline skating for recreation, fitness, and/or sport.
I’m a recreational inline skater, a novice short and long track ice speed skater, and a mom of kids who inline skate in the summer and speed skate on ice in the winter, so the interest in this area is near and dear to my heart. I will be adding recommendations on where to get more information in each of the categories based on personal experience, solid research, and feedback from my visitors.
New to Inline Skating?
If you haven’t joined the fun, inline skating is relatively easy to pick up and enjoy right away, and you can evolve with the sport and make it as challenging and competitive as you want it to be.
Inline Skates
Of course, inline skates are the essential component of any type of inline skating. For a quick definition:
inline skates are roller skates which feature 4 or 5 wheels in a straight formation. These wheels are often mounted under a modified hard or soft shell boot for added stability.
Some inline skates have a "stop" or "brake" which is used to slow down while skating; most inline skates have a heel stop rather than a toe stop. Inline hockey skates won't have any brakes, as they are meant to have a similar feel and function to ice hockey skates.
Rollerblades or Inline Skates?
They’re one and the same. Inline skates are interchangeably called 'rollerblades'. Rollerblade is actually a registered brand name belonging to the Rollerblade company, considered to be the pioneers of modern in-line skates.
